RF: Croissant Donut

Hello Friends,

Welcome to Review Fridays (RF)!

The following review is my opinion. This is not a sponsored post.

We are kicking off this series with the Dunkin Donut Croissant Donut. I tried this donut on two different occassions and came to the same conclusion. The croissant donut is overrated and way too sweet.

In Appearance, this donut gets 25 of 25pts. I liked the  interesting shape that is not quite round like a traditional donut. The hole in the middle made it a donut 🙂 and the height “elevated” the donut experience.

As far as Taste goes, all i could taste was sugar and more sugar. It was cloyingly sweet. On both occasions , during consumption I kept thinking “ChiO save your pancreas, stop eating this”.  Taste = 10 of 25pts.

I was not sure what to expect in terms of texture. It would be unfair to compare Dunkin Donuts to a Pâtisserie where the croissant is rich, flaky and buttery as croissant should be. I am yet to try Dominique Ansel’s cronut so there was really no basis for comparison. That being said though, the texture was denser than a regular donut, it was dry inside, not as stretchy as a yeast donut or PuffPuff.  Texture = 10 of 25pts.

Regarding Description vs. Reality, this donut has the “croissant” layers as promised. It is more of donut than a croissant.  Description vs Reality = 20pts

Conclusion: On both occasions, I was neither thrilled nor dissapointed. The croissant donut was too sweet, and far from memorable. It was a fair attempt at creating a cross between the croissant and traditional yeast donut.  No thumbs for this.
